A loft in the pines, built for two
The owner has called this property Buckingham Palace for years, and every palace needs an Earl. The loft sits on the second floor above the owner's garage, which holds storage and is off-limits to guests. The windows face the trees, so most of the time the view is pine branches, sky, and the deer or wild turkeys walking through.
The kitchen is a full one, with a stove, oven, dishwasher and coffee maker, so you can cook a proper dinner rather than heat one up. The gas fireplace warms the loft quickly on a cold night, and a mini split handles the summer. In good weather, eat out on the patio, where the mountains show through the tops of the trees.
The yard and the creek
The large yard in front of the loft is yours to use. The fenced yard behind belongs to the cabin next door, but if no one is staying there, message us and we'll let you know if it's free. North Piney Creek runs along the property line. Enjoy it from the yard, but please stay off the bank and out of the water. Most of the bank belongs to the neighbors to the east.

Story, Wyoming
Story is a small town at the foot of the Bighorns, about 25 minutes south of downtown Sheridan. The Tunnel Inn is at the entrance to Red Cloud Drive; you could walk there, but most people drive. The Wagon Box is just up the road. A small grocery on Fish Hatchery Road covers the basics, but services in Story are limited, so stop in Sheridan on the way in for anything more.
Our guide to Sheridan →Before you book
Stairs and access
The loft is on the second floor, up a long flight of stairs. It is not step-free, and you'll carry bags and groceries up yourself. The queen bed suits a couple; The Earl sleeps two.
Winter
Story gets real snow, and getting snowed in is possible. We strongly recommend a 4WD vehicle in winter. Cell service is good, so you can always reach us.
Neighbors and privacy
The property is private, but there are neighbors nearby. The Duke, the cabin next door, shares the front yard. When it's booked, you'll have less privacy outside.
Pets
Up to three pets are welcome with a $75 fee once per stay. If left unattended indoors, they must be crated. There's no fenced yard for the loft, so plan on leashed time in the front yard, and please keep dogs out of the creek.
Parking and arrival
One car parks near the garage, and a second spot is about 50 feet away; we'll send details before you arrive. Check-in is after 4pm and checkout is at 11am. We're based in Sheridan and available by message if you need anything.
